Hamswell House
Hamswell House in spring, wisteria in flower, wedding guests gathered on the lawn

Yours alone, for one weekend.

A 17th-century family home five miles from Bath, with 75 acres of gardens and a view that runs all the way to the Westbury White Horse.

“Quite simply one of England's most romantically beautiful and enchanting houses.”
The Country & Town House, Little Black Book of Wedding Venues

Welcome. Hamswell House is our much-loved family home, not a commercial venue — and that is what makes it so special.

Yours will be the only wedding here that weekend. The marquee goes up on the croquet lawn days before, you have the day before to style it, and the gardens, the orangery and the terrace are yours until the music stops.

We look forward to welcoming you for the best day of your lives.

Ceremonies

Five places to say yes

Every setting seats 200, and each has a covered option if the English weather has other ideas.

Imagine exchanging your vows beneath the boughs of a 400-year-old lime tree, with the Jacobean façade of the house behind you. A dreamy way to begin.

If it rains: An awning can be raised over the lawn for 200.

The party

And then the lanterns come on.

As night draws in, the stars above the dance floor light up, then the festoons around the marquee, the lanterns on the terrace and the soft floodlights on the house and the Neptune fountain. The band strikes up. It is time for the first dance.

“Like something out of a fairy tale.”

We fell in love with Hamswell, not just for its beauty, but for its charm — it's rich in romance and history, from its ancient lime tree to its whimsical wisteria.
